FUERTEVENTURA

In 2009 the island received the status of UNESCO Nature Reserve.

The third largest of the Fuerteventura natural parks is Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo. A nature reserve spread out on an area of 2600 hectares, characteristic of sand dunes. The biggest dunes on the Canary islands. The whole reservation is freely accessible. You just have to follow the basic rules of polite behaviour – mainly concerning rubbish, but surely there is no need to stress that.

Who prefers wandering around narrow alleys, getting amazed by magnificent cathedrals, admiring flowers in the windows of the citizen houses and their architectural masterpieces, finds no luck on Fuerteventura. There are really few ostentatious historical buildings to be found. The first town founded on Fuerteventura was Betancuria. It was founded in 1405 by the Norman conqueror Jaean de Béthencourt.
