Lanzarote is also called the island of hundreds of volcanoes – you can find more than two hundred and fifty of them here. Massive eruptions lasting for six years have covered a fourth of the island with lava and created the Timanfaya National Park, which is a paradise for vulcanologists. Thanks to the fertile volcanic soil, Lanzarote is an island of excellent wines. Wine grapes are grown on thousands of hectares of vineyards. The whole island became a UNESCO world biosphere reserve in 1993.

Lanzarote is an island of beautiful sandy beaches. You’ll find 87 beaches in all here, with a total length of 26 kilometers. Beaches with black volcanic sand, but mostly vast light sand beaches thanks to the proximity of the Sahara - just perfect for lots of lounging around. And one of them is right below the highest mountain. One of the best natural beaches on Lanzarote - Playa de Famara

On a weekday, Teguise feels like quite a sleepy place. But that changes significantly every Sunday morning. The streets of the town are flooded by a market that it seems everyone visits – all the tourists as well as the locals.

This is a typical example of Manrique’s work, showing that creating an impressive work of architecture does not require tons of steel, concrete or glass.
