The island of the god Helios –the Greek island of

RHODOS

Rhodes is located in the Mediterranean Sea, in a place where the Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea meet. This is one of the reasons that its eastern and western coasts are so very different from one another. It’s no coincidence that it’s called the island of the god Helios – it has the most sunny days out of all the Greek islands – a whole 3OO sunny days a year.

Whether you visit its medieval towns and set out to see the monuments and discover the history … or whether you let yourself be enticed by the sunny beaches … or head out to go camping in the south –to the confluence of two seas ...or if you get a taste of what life is genuinely like among the locals and discover the towns and villages in the mountains …We are confident that you will enjoy Rhodes just as much as we have!

The village of Siana is known for its excellent honey, but especially for Souma. Souma is a strong wine spirit – it is advisable to proceed very cautiously when drinking it. Souma is not permitted to be produced throughout Greece. During the days of Italian rule, the Siana region obtained a license, which is still in effect, permitting villagers to continue to produce and sell their powerfulbeverage.

I have to mention two “attractions” (to be said sarcastically). The first of these is the Seven Springs – EptaPiges(eptapiyés). These are actually five tiny springs –flowing out from the side of a slope into a small pond –and illustratively marked with a wooden numbered sign. After a further 200 meter walk through overgrown brush, hardier individuals can find the remaining two springs.
